Kewadin Casinos Announces Multi-Million Dollar Upgrade Project.
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Kewadin Casinos will begin work on a multi-million dollar upgrade project of the Kewadin Casino Hotel in Sault Ste Marie this year with the property seeing substantial modernization. These improvements will start with an all-new exterior and windows.
Not included in the press release is the fact that this remodeling project is being paid for with funds originally designated for a the drug rehab center that had a minimum of two years of work paid for by the tribe to plan it. The majority of the tribal board decided to transfer the funding to remodel the casino instead of keeping the commitment. While we know the casino needs improvements the lack of commitment to the community may result in the continued distrust of our tribes integrity.
To minimize the impact the project will have on casino guests, the renovations will be completed in phases. Exterior renovations are expected to take just over a year to complete and will begin in the Summer/Fall of 2023 and ending in Winter of 2024. Kewadin Casino Sault Ste Marie will remain open for the duration of this project.
