Tribal Board may be sued in Tribal Court for violations of the Constitution’s Article III Records Request.

February 5, 2023.  After multiple "REASONABLE REQUESTS" being made to the Tribal Board starting in 2021 for records as allowed by our Tribe's Constitution ARTICLE III Section 1 being ignored or refused the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indian's Tribal Board has been provided one final request by a Tribal Elder prior to this issue being brought in front of the Tribal Court for review.     

ARTICLE III - TRIBAL RECORDS

Section 1. All books, records and financial accounts of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, including the tribal roll, shall be open to inspection by tribal members upon reasonable request to the board of directors.
