Tribal Board ends contract with attorneys representing the Tribe’s Fishing Rights.

September 14, 2023.

The Tribal Board passed a resolution during the September 5 board Meeting to terminate the contract with Special Counsel Contract-Morisset, Schlosser, Jozwiak, & Somerville PC, the law firm that has been representing the Tribe’s Fishing Rights. After spending millions of dollars on legal fees and being chastised by all the other parties involved in the Great Lakes Consent Decree the Tribal Board decided to move the work in-house and ordered the Tribe's General Council to take over the case.  At this time, it is unclear the next steps our tribe will take to protect the fishing rights in the Great Lakes.
