The Tribe is seeking funding from America the Beautiful Challenge Grant for St. Mary’s River.

July 18, 2023.  

The Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Wildlife Division is applying for a $5 million grant from the America the Beautiful Challenge Grant. The grant application is for work on the St. Mary’s River.  If awarded grant funds will be used to support the restoration and enhancement of natural areas, with a focus on advancing the ongoing efforts of invasive species management and native plant restoration aimed at protecting and restoring the St. Mary’s River from the human-caused damage. 

The goal is to improve the ecological health needed to preserve the St.Mary's biodiversity.   

This project is a collaboration with state,local,and national partners.
