Colorado and New Mexico Senators work with Tribes to bring water to families on the reservations.

July 24, 2023.  Tribal Access to Clean Water Act of 2023.

U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper from Colorado and Martin Heinrich from New Mexico, along with U.S. Representative Joe Neguse from Colorado have reintroduced legislation that will dramatically expand Tribal access to clean water by investing in water infrastructure. This bill would increase funding through the Indian Health Service, United States Department of Agriculture, and the Bureau of Reclamation to support water infrastructure projects in Tribal communities and help provide clean water to the large number of Native American households who currently lack access.

Manuel Heart, Chairman of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe said, the bill is a critical step toward increasing Tribal independence and governance capabilities.
