May 28 2024.

The Sault Tribe Election Commission has called a special meeting for Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Whitefish Point Room at Kewadin Casinos in the Sault. The purpose of this special meeting is for the Commission to review Election contests and complaint(s) before heading into closed session for a legal update. Members may attend via Zoom using the link below, or in person at the Whitefish Point Room.

While they claim the meeting is open to members and the link is provided below based on their agenda it appears the majority of the meeting will be in closed session.

We suspect that the issue has to do with missing ballots lost in the mail which may have prohibited those wishing to vote their rights to vote.  We can verify this is not the only election that at least one missing ballot.  A minimum of one tribal member that was in support of opening the rolls because she had family members that were denied their rights to be members was refused a replacement ballot after the tribe was notified of the fact that a ballot was not received.  The only reason that election was not contested was because those in favor of providing the enrollment rights to members won the election.
