Public Hearing tomorrow for the application received by EGLE to fill and construct in wetlands and place a water intake structure in Lake Michigan to facilitate the construction of the Line 5 Tunnel Project.

August 18 2025,

A Public Hearing for an application received by EGLE to fill and construct in wetlands and place a water intake structure in Lake Michigan to facilitate the construction of the Line 5 Tunnel Project is scheduled for 6pm EST August 19.

The State of Michigan kicked off the public comment period for permitting on the Great Lakes Tunnel project.

Now’s the time to let your view be known.

The organization known as Great Lakes Michigan Jobs stands together to back the Great Lakes Tunnel. Tribal Members, Tribal Governments, and Environmentalist have a much larger view, which puts protecting fish, wildlife, and of course the Great Lakes from Environmental Disaster ahead of the short-term jobs created by this tunnel project.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 6pm the state is holding a virtual public comment hearing on permits for the Great Lakes Tunnel. The Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is responsible for permitting and is asking folks to sign up ASAP to speak over ZOOM at the virtual public comment hearing.

Your voice couldn’t be more important.

Great Lakes Michigan Jobs support this project for the following reasons:

  • "The Great Lakes Tunnel Project has undergone 5 years of extensive review, including over 40,000 hours of survey work, making it one of Michigan’s most comprehensively reviewed infrastructure projects.
  • The tunnel will safely house the Line 5 pipeline, removing a portion of it from the waters of the Great Lakes and placing it deep below the lake-bed, ensuring even greater protection for our cherished waterways."
  • Both Environmentalist, Many Tribal Citizens, and the Tribal Governments oppose the plan.
  • Sign up today to make your views known to the State of Michigan. Your voice is being counted.
